Parents pay no tuition for their child to attend private special education
schools. All special education services - including placement in a private
school - are funded through a combination of federal, state and local tax
dollars. Using this funding, your school district pays the costs of tuition
and transportation for private special education schools. Parents cannot
be asked to pay for their child's special education.

Parents are an integral part of their child's education process. Working
with members of the school's child study team, parents can request
information on private special education schools and help make an
informed decision regarding their child's education. The final referral
to a private special education school comes from the school's child study
team, who will continue to be responsible for the student. The Coalition of
Southern New Jersey Private Special Education Schools was established to
help parents learn more about the options they have concerning their child's
education. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1-800-697-8555.

Students at private special education schools are entitled to all the benefits
afforded other students in their district, including the eligibility to participate in
the public school's extra-curricular activities, sports, social events and more.

Students who successfully complete required courses at a private special education school will receive a diploma from the public school in their school district. (For example, if a student's sending school is Lenape High School, when
the student graduates from Garfield Park Academy, their diploma will read
Lenape High School.)

Yes. Door-to-door transportation is provided for all students enrolled in
a private special education school, and includes accommodations for
wheelchairs or other equipment. Transportation costs are paid for by
the child's school district.

Yes. Just like New Jersey public schools, our schools are approved by
the New Jersey State Department of Education, and our employees are
certified by the State as well. Our schools follow the New Jersey Core
Curriculum requirements and are closely monitored by the State to ensure
a high quality standard of education.

No, all six schools in the Coalition provide day services only.

The goal of all our private special education schools is to
bring your child to his or her fullest potential. Student progress
and placement is reviewed annually, and when appropriate,
students are recommended for placement back in their original
school district.
